Creative Writing

"I Am a Writer": 1199 members took creative writing classes as part of a national "Workers Writing Project" in which they wrote stories about their lives as nursing home workers and union members. Some of these stories were performed on stage. In addition, with their new writing skills, members have written letters to legislators to advocate for issues that they are concerned about.

Writing Samples

Donna Monteith	Mrs. Johnson, a short sentimental look at a fond old and eccentric lady that will steal your heart. "Mrs. Johnson is a petite woman in her 80's. She weighs about 100 lbs wet, if that much. She has big, bright, beautiful blue eyes that look so mysterious when she smiles. Her hair is a beautiful shade of silver with natural body waves."
Doris Taylor	My Sassy, a look at a feisty old lady with a heart of gold. "Even though she fights and curses me, I know she likes me very much, and I feel the same way about her. I like her because she is spunky, and I love to look and listen to her even if she has an over-active mouth. She is not only sassy, but she is cute as a button."
