Eligibility

General Eligibility
You must be an 1199 member employed full or part-time (minimum of eight hours per week) at a facility that is currently contributing to the Training Fund.

  • You are eligible for our Learning Center programs once you have completed your probationary period.
  • You are eligible for Tuition Reimbursement once you have completed one year at your facility.

    Tuition Reimbursement (TR)
    Tuition Reimbursement covers:

  • Courses toward a certificate, a diploma, an Associate's Degree, a Bachelor's degree, or a graduate degree in a health care related field.
  • Short-term courses, workshops, or trainings in a non-degree or non-credit program taken for the purpose of skills enhancement and/or career advancement in a health care field.
    • If your area of study is not directly health care related, but your degree or certificate could be used to regular employment in a health care facility (ex: business courses) then this is also covered.
    • If your area of study doesn't fit the above, the Training Fund will still reimburse you for prerequisite courses such as English, Math, Biology, etc. that are required to be taken before you enter your degree courses. Please check with the Training Fund office if you have any questions about this.

    What is the maximum reimbursement?

    1. The maximum reimbursement per semester is the dollar amount equivalent to tuition for six credits at the University of Connecticut for all programs except nursing. Currently this is $1922
    2. The maximum reimbursement per semester for nursing students is the dollar amount equivalent to tuition for 12 credits at the University of Connecticut. Currently this is $3745.

    What costs are covered by TR?
    Costs of tuition, fees, and uniforms are covered at the rate of 100%. Textbooks are covered at the rate of 50%.

    What grades are required to receive reimbursement?
    You must receive a C or better to be reimbursed.

    If you are enrolled in a private or an out-of-state institution, you will receive reimbursement at a per credit rate not to exceed the prevailing per credit costs at the University of Connecticut.

    You must submit a Tuition Reimbursement form to the Fund office by the deadline before each semester. If you are not in a semester length course, the form must be submitted to the office before the course starts.

    When you complete the course, you must provide a copy of your grades and receipts to the Fund office within 60 days of completion of the course.

    Fall semester-August 1

    Winter session-November 15

    Spring (Jan-June) semester-December 15

    Summer semester-May 1


    Close to 4000 members are eligible for Training Fund programs, and approximately 25% of eligible members participate in at least one program each year. In the 2000-2001 school year, 979 members participated. 565 received tuition reimbursement, 256 took computer skills classes, and 143 took class at one of the Learning Centers.
