Strike Writings - Cleonie Jean-Pierre

During the strike the Hartford Courant printed an article about Maribel Rodriguez, a CNA on strike from Crescent Manor in Waterbury. In the article Maribel talked about herself, her children, and her reasons for going on strike. Some of our students read the article in class and decided to write letters to Maribel.

Dear Maribel Rodriguez,
After finishing reading your article, I see your experiences are similar with mine because in my job I have the same problems. I have so many patients to take care of you won't believe it, and some of them I have to do everything for them. For example, feed, dress, bath, and inform them where they are at. This is a lot for a little bit of money, and they refuse to raise me.
Maribel, I admire your courage. It inspires me because you are standing up for what you believe in even though you have kids at home. You have realized that the reason you have come to America is to realize your American dream. You refused to be denied this dream and I applaud you for that.
And before I end this letter, I'd like to say "Way to go, sister!" May God bless you.
Keep it up, don't give up.
Love,

Cleonie Jean-Pierre
CNA, Smith House, Stamford
