Strike Writings - Marie Florence Solius

I think that's what they are expecting and looking for. I think it is very important to hire enough staff in the nursing homes. It shouldn't be only a way to get rich.
We are like family of those patients. Every morning when you come to work they are more likely to talk to you instead of letting you do your job. One patient told me one day to sit for a while and talk to me. "You are helping me better when you take time to talk to me instead of dressing me up. Where am I going?" Unfortunately you are always in a rush to finish to go to the next one. The patients are always tracking your days off, to know who is going to help them the day you are off. They are like little children who rely on you to live. When it is your time to go home, some ask if they can go with you.
They make you feel really sorry for them. They are comfortable with you and think that you are their family. We really are their family because when it is time for them to die you are the one they hold very tight and make cry.
I think it is a very serious problem. They need to hire more staff and give us less patients so we can have time and make them feel good. Today is their turn and tomorrow will be ours. We need to fight together to change the situation, so we don't have to suffer mentally as they are suffering now.
